In a recent article, a local civic organization has accused the Allentown Public School District of continued racism. The allegations were made at a recent school board meeting. Allentown Public School District teachers can respond by examining their present performance and enhance teacher student classroom relationships throughout the entire school district.

According to the article, the crux of the demands was an allegation that a teacher in January used a racial epithet in the classroom.

Jude-Laure Denis and Camilla Greene, with P.O.W.E.R. Northeast, read an open letter to the Allentown School Board. The group describes itself as a multi-faith, multi-racial organization working to address racial and economic injustice.

A middle school teacher in the district’s alternative education school, known as the Jackson Building, allegedly used a racial slur in front of six to eight students, according to Greene. The teacher was reportedly reacting to a group of students repeating the song lyric, “I am a Nazi,” she said.

The teacher’s spouse reportedly is Jewish.

The teacher, who was not named, allegedly “snapped” and her response included a racial epithet, Greene said.

Greene said the group wrote the open letter because of the teacher’s refusal to “participate in the restorative process on a personal level.”

The teacher’s response propelled the students into a leadership position which will be almost impossible to overcome.

Black students use several verbal techniques to discover a teacher’s strengths and weaknesses in order to evaluate a teacher’s racial attitudes and locate teachers’ breaking points to help the students empower themselves in the situation between them and the teacher. If a Black student expects to rise to the position of a leader, he must know how to keep his cool. If he cannot respond to a teachers challenge without becoming frustrated and unnerved, he is not likely to have the respect of others or remain a leader for long.

Now that the Allentown Public School District teachers are perceived by students as racist, the teachers will have to first evaluate if student disciplinary data will reveal that they are racist.

Allentown Public School District teachers can use the Raccelerate Racism Formula to evaluate the racism discipline level in their classroom.

The Raccelerate Racism Formula and the Raccelerate Racism Scale are direct products of the Raccelerate Phenomenon. The Raccelerate Phenomenon has roots in Newton’s Third Law of Motion. Newton’s Third Law of Motion states that when one body exerts a force on a second body, the second body simultaneously exerts a force equal in magnitude and opposite in direction on the first body. In elementary terms, Newton’s Third Law of Motion states that for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction.

The Raccelerate Phenomenon follows the same principle as Newton’s Third Law of Motion in that whenever there is a perceived infringement by a Black male against a White female there is an negative overreaction portrayed in the media. Specifically, the Raccelerate Phenomenon states that for every action that a Black male takes against a White female there is an elevated negative reaction towards Black men. The Raccelerate Phenomenon is the cause for many of the racial tensions between Blacks and Whites.

The Raccelerate Racism Formula provides schools and teachers a formula for determining possible racism against students in their school, school district, or classroom. The symbol for the Raccelerate Racism Formula is denoted: RRF

 School Version

RRF = Ln ((Number of Students Suspended)/ Total Number of Students) + 5.4

Ln = Natural Log

The Raccelerate Racism Scale is a 0 to 10 numerical scale.

RRF
0-1 Not Racist
1-2 Slightly Racist
2-3 Moderately Racist
3-4 Highly Racist
4-10 Extremely Racist

Teacher Version

RRF = Ln ((Number of Student Discipline Referrals)/ Total Number of Students) + 5.4

Ln = Natural Log

The Raccelerate Racism Scale is a 0 to 10 numerical scale.

RRF
0-1 Not Racist
1-2 Slightly Racist
2-3 Moderately Racist
3-4 Highly Racist
4-10 Extremely Racist

As a final step, Allentown Public School teachers will have to shift the perception that the students have regarding their intentions.

The district should use a process that not only shifts the culture but also empowers the teachers to shift the culture.

Many of the initiatives designed to shift those perception are either in an information delivery format or alienate the teacher which results in disempowering the teachers. When teachers feel disempowered they will completely oppose the school initiative and eventually leave the district which will create a different set of problems for the school district.

Allentown Public School District teachers will have to eliminate the perception of classroom racism by promoting positive racial teacher student classroom relationships to ensure that the students no longer perceive them as racist.
