Dear Principal Somerville,

The recent teacher student fight in your school has prompted me to submit this proposal to you. I attempted to contact you by phone but your personal secretary, Ms. Latimer, instructed me to send you an email regarding my services.

As a consultant, I offer a service that will reduce tension in your school that exists between your teachers and students and is the source of many teacher student fights. While I am almost sure that you have implemented measures to offset the consequences of the fight, I am also certain that my services will benefit you, your teachers, and your students.

Enclosed you will find a proposal for the service that I offer. I will follow up with you in the next few days to ensure that you have received the proposal. I look forward to a meeting with you and will entertain any questions that you may have at that time.

Sincerely, Dr. Derrick L. Campbell

Enclosure: Proposal

SITUATION APPRAISAL

You will need to begin a major transition with the intent of improving teacher-student classroom relationships at the Carver Vocational Technical High School. A recent incident of a teacher students fight has reached the national audience. Some students have sided with the teacher which will result in fights between students. Students who disagree with the teachers behaviors will choose to become oppositional to all teachers in the school resulting in additional disciplinary consequences as well as underachievement for a considerable amount of students. Without the proper transition you and your administrators will become inundated with delving out discipline, confrontational conferences with parents, and instructional staff that will continue to seek validation in all of their decisions.

The transition that you need will require reducing student disciplinary consequences that result for student-student interactions and teacher-student interactions. Students who believe that the disciplinary consequences are unwarranted will choose to either skip that teachers class or even skip school. Students who choose to skip school may decide to dropout of school which will only impact standardized testing results and the school graduation rate. The only way to offset the consequences of the teacher student fight is to promote positive teacher student classroom relationships.
